Aussie Grand Prix
03 Apr '06 - 14:15 by benrIf you missed the Australian Grand Prix this weekend you really lost out. What an amazing race. Kimi drove well, but it was a fairly unspectacular race for him, minus one really daring pass on Button following a safety car period. Of all the things that happened, the most amazing event was this one:
Jenson Button on the final lap, a stones throw from the finish, blew his engine and pulled it off the track. It was so damned funny that I literally fell down on the ground and laughed harder than I have in years for about 3 minutes straight. Just totally hillarious. We've seen this happen to people before, failing on the last lap, but never so close to the finish.
Alanso's move on Button mid-race, when he passed Button just as they passed start/finish following a safety car period was classic. Truely a sign of a top driver, he was just brilliant. Adding to Alanso's dominance was the pace of Fissi, who got a telling call on the radio mid-race, to the effect of "you've got the same fuel as Alanso and your 2 seconds slower, there is not possible, you've gotta speed up". d0h.
I really didn't expect a lot from this race. The possibility of rain kept hope alive but I was thrilled by what an exciting race it turned out to be. Keep your eyes on Tony's blog, as he'll inevitably have some good comments on the race himself.

Too tall? Damon Hill is about 6 foot and he won a championship. Just get McLaren/Renault/Ferrari to build a car around you. I remember seeing Justin Wilson at a track day before he drove in F1 and looked well over 6 foot as well.I dream of being in an F1 driver but I’m just rubbish at driving on the limit.
