VW GTI Ad Campaign
30 Mar '06 - 18:41 by benrIf you don't watch TV much you might have not see the new Volkswagen ad campaign designed to take back to enthusiast market from asian automakers. Thankfully you can enjoy all the ads on Google Video. These are just classic ads. My favorite is when the german guy says "What does dis do?", "It sucks in air", and the girl comments "Its definately sucking." That one just kills me. Damned funny.
I'm watching closely what VW is doing right now. I've been a long time VW driver/owner. In highschool I had a VW Rabbit and then in college had a 1973 VW Super Bettle (CA Edition). When I finally bought my first new car I chose to buy a 1998 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition from my favorite California dealer: Sonnen Motorcars.
In Dec of 2004 the Jetta bit the dust, from new to nearly dead, just over 210,000 miles. I replaced the Jetta with my beloved Volvo S70 T5 stick which I have now. I didn't even consider a VW because the change the bodies in 2000 to make everything look like a stretched bug. I like boxy cars.
So the new VW GTI is bring back a bit of the old VW I knew and loved. I went to a dealer to check one out and both Tamarah and I were impressed. It also comes in a Jetta 4 door model, but with the same look, engine, etc. Thanks to this car, I'm starting to seriously think about VW again... expect for one little glitch. The new cars are really well made and solid vehicles, but the price is, imho, a little outragious. The cars are priced in the mid $20's. A really nicely equipted GTI or Jetta is gonna run you around $28,000 not to mention tax, licenses, import, etc. I personally think that VW's sweet spot is in the $17,000 to $20,000 range for the low end cars. I paid $17,500 (before taxes and fees) for my Jetta and feel like I got a lot of value for my money. I just don't know if I'd actually pay $24,000+ for these new cars.... but in the meantime, I'm lovin' the ads.
Haha… I’m pationate about Vw’s and Solaris too.
Vw is going to be releasing a lot of new product over the next couple years. A new Van is coming from the partnership with Chrysler. The VW eos convertible coming in 2007. The New Scriroco comming in 2008. The new Golf in the summer of 2006(ok i’t been availible in europe for ever), A new VW SUV.

German cars? Way overpriced.I think I’ll just stick with what I know works and looks nice: Lexus, Mazda, and Toyota (although Toyotas started looking like crap lately).

I just hope that the GTI isn’t built in the same place as the SE. I’ve had no end of problems with mine, even a new flywheel?!?. I’m not a big fan of the accelerator pedal either, though this is a personal thing. I have an old golf colour concept (2000) which is far more reliable and the seats are much more comfy. Even my friend’s 1964 type II fire engine is more reliable than this one.HugoRune - 31 March '06 - 07:24
Im a Subaru guy. VW is way overpriced in here: Finland. Golf, Polo, Bora(Jetta) previous models used to have a lot of of electrical problems (hit the google to search)To get a new Golf in Finland you gotta wait 3-4 months from factory … I remember something funny: I think for the 2004 Golf model VW finally introduced the most wanted human advanced technology: a cd player and radio :))
Hehe… what a progress! Same applies to Audi in here too. You get Audi A4 starting prices 40.000e and no radio or cd.
