Sitting at my desk is a stack of, yes, a Sun X2100, Sun X4100, and Sun X4200. The X2100's and X4100's are for a new mail system. The X4200's are consolidating our backup environment, paired up with 2 Sun C4's. The in the stacks of boxes are are 5 X2100's, 3 X4200's, 2 X4200's, and 2 C4's, in addition to all the options we purchases for them. Life is good, especially given that we're a long time Compaq/HP shop, previously only using Sun systems (my systems) for Oracle databases. Management was so pleased with the value of the X4200's they let me use all Sun Galaxy systems for our new mail system. Sadly, the mail system requires Linux and NetBackup Server isn't avalible for Solaris X86 yet, so we're having to load CentOS and RHEL on all of them, which is a huge damned waste, but they are amazing systems that I love to work with.
Is Sun breaking into new areas of the datacenter with their X64 strategy? The answer is a very decisive: yes.

Bill: If it makes you feel better, these systems are the production version of whats currently implemented on a stack of DL360 G1’s.Dan: My employeer is 100% behind Solaris 10, in fact part of the selling point of using X4200’s as a backup system was so that we could create zones on the box and use them for testing, development, and QA during the day when only minimal backup activity was occuring. We’re only using Linux because the software we’re using has forced us to, but I’m actively putting preasure on both these vendors (Zimbra and Symantec/Veritas) to provide Solaris versions.
BTW, I should have mentioned all these systems are dual core. :)
