Microsoft Origami: WTF?
02 Mar '06 - 15:08 by benrMicrosoft's Origami Project is getting a lot of buzz lately. Its the Microsoft attempt at a next generation PDA.
Interestingly enough, you might be shocked to know that I have the prototype at home on my desk. In fact, I've been using it for the last 10 years! Can you believe it? Oh ya, I'm ahead of the curve, and on the cutting edje of technology: ITS CALLED NEWTON!!!!
Does your Newton have Firefox, Wifi, Bluetooth and a color, hires screen?

No, because its 10 years old!!! The Newton can do WiFi actually. But take into account that back in 1994 when the Newton was in its prime we didn’t have Bluetooth or Wifi, so the Newton utilized FAX and modem. Back then the web hand’t really even caught on, so while there was a web browser you weren’t viewing big graphical sites like we have today. And for the time, the screen was really high res.Which brings me back to my point. This new PDA is just a Newton brought 10 years into the future and re-invisioned (ie: f’ed up) by Redmond. Even the price point is the same. ;)

Hahahaha, Not to mention how is this any different than the ipaq. god bless the irony that it’s running firefox. and what is this just another attempt for microsoft to stay afloat? Especially after bad news from EU antitrust (check slashdot quick) as well as the fastest growing large economy having their own Linux distro (China).We have Sun for corporate environment, or Linux if you prefer, Apple for non-computer savvy home users or graphic artist.
I can’t wait to see Bill Gates in the streets with a “The End is Near” billboard’s across his chest. :-P

It’s probably a small x86 PC instead of a “PDA”... I mean… the hardware will be probably closer to a standard PC, and maybe it’ll run standard windows software too.Well, let’s see when they really announce the details.

the only reasons i’d consider windows is for photoshop / illustrator, and xmlspy (yes it throws standards in the wind… but its still nifty). None of these things will be happening on a pda… i guess i’ll just stick with anything else for now :) (like my mobile phone)triplah - 07 March '06 - 02:44
