Paul Murphy's got it right. Wow. Seriously... WOW! Just look at this damned page! This is an enterprise shopping list for crying out loud. OS, check, Application Stack, check, Development enviroment, check, provisioning infrastructure, check; download now.

If your not amazed by this, you either don't have a pulse, are retarded, or need a clue. This is all the software you need to run a thriving enterprise enviroment... we're not talking small business suite here, this is hard core big company stuff... at no cost! If your not deploying on Sun your a dipshit who likes to throw money away.

So.... lets review shall we?

I think another important observation is the affect the open-source movement is having on large vendors. Yes there is some good software included in this bundle Sun is releasing, but the fact that they are going to this model is what is interesting. And they are not alone, Oracle, IBM to name a few more. What will be the long term impact on classic software vendors? I think only time will tell but its going to be an interesting and maybe bumpy ride.

Great post. You are so true, you’d better have pretty darn good reasons for not using SES these days. We’ve seen Linux and Opensource hit mainstream. People in charge of IT depts now have the approach of, “it it isn’t opensource I’m not using it”; that so many companies jumped on the bandwagon and opensourced their software, just to make headlines. Well, guess what, the last dedicated Unix company just made their entire (almost) software stack free and opensourced! Better yet, they sell hardware, innovative, integrated solutions, and you’ll know your software will run on it without a glitch; unlike trying to deploy some Linux distro and have the hardware vendor pretty much clueless on what the OS is about and how it works with its server…
