Its all over folks. Oracle buys Sun, EU approved.

There will be a Oracle + Sun Strategy Update Webcast on Wed the 27th, so make sure to tune in for that. The invite was sent out yesterday, so looks like Oracle got early notice.

I second disserman on that. Let’s wait and see what Oracle will say about OpenSolaris and other open source related subjects which were brewing in Sun prior to the merge. Like for example open sourcing Sun’s C/C++ compiler and SunStudio etc.

The 27th was the EU deadline anyway, not surprised that they’d have it then (though a little surprised that it’s not sooner otherwise).

The other thing that is a little worrisome is the potential for the ex-MySQL guy to sue, or to muck up the arrangements in Russia or China.

While I’m not ecstatic about Oracle (understatement!) at least it’s a step toward closure

Isn’t it strange for someone to do it in countries where there are lot’s of problems with human rights protection? IMHO it says something about true intentions of such activities.

Accurate as ever I see – you’re continuing your reputation as the Fox News of tech blogging with your half-understanding of things.

While it’s a landmark, it’s not over yet. Oracle and Sun are not the same company, and won’t be until the thing “closes”. And that’s not likely to happen until China gives a green light unless Oracle wants to follow Google’s lead and piss off China.
